APOLLO 11 MEDALLION by yer pal BLUE Tonight I have something out of the SDBox and it will be on my desk tomorrow. When cancer took my Dad, it took a great man. Dad left me many things, the most valued things he left me you can't see or touch. One thing he did leave me that I do love to touch is special to me, it was his APOLLO 11 MEDALLION. It is in a case that says on the front side "APOLLO 11 MEDALLION FOR YOUR CONTIBUTION TO THE UNITED STATES SPACE PROGRAM" on the back side it says ..."one small step for a man - one giant leap for mankind" The front of the Medallion says THE EAGLE HAS LANDED JULY 20,1969 It shows man standing on the moon, one landing gear of the Eagle and the American flag. The back of the medallion tells you what you hold in your hand. It says "This Medallion contains medal from spacecrafts Columbia and Eagle, that took Astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on their historic Apollo 11 mission that resulted in first landing of man on the Moon." Think of that, a piece of the first spacecraft that went to the Moon and back. A small piece of what the Astronauts lived in, of what took them to to the Moon and into history. Today is a day to thank men with crew cuts, remember "THINK" note pads, NASA, and my Dad's gang who went to Huntsville, Alabama and some built history. Today is a day to stand up and give all the people all around the United States that helped put man on the Moon a great big standing O. Way to go!! THE EAGEL HAS LANDED and so did America as a nation. A national goal achieved. Kennedy's challenge to a nation, answered. National pride. Remember?
