mm-

I felt the same regarding MSFT this afternoon. I now think that I will be proved wrong tomorrow.

Its the summer doldrums. Once earnings season is outof the wat and that probably may have happened today, then I believe the amrket will tank. Just like it did in February and in May/June. And we all remember last August. That was a pretty miserable time.

But the market tanking probably means CSCO, INTC, LU maybe WCOM and maybe MSFT. Those will all surely tank. Great companies they will no doubt perform very well over the next few years but itsalmost past earnings season and the buying urge dries up and thats that. BUT it doesn't apply to all stocks and I doubt itwill apply to the Q this time.

Cheer up. When I said we need you I meant it and so does most of the thread!!!

Best regards,

L

Mike, I have not listened to the conference call (maybe later) but from what I've read here, I do not see anything to be too glum about. Perhaps a little bit of unrealized expectations. But there is much news to come.

First, I would not take the "component shortage" too seriously. As far as I can tell, Qualcomm has been dealing with component shortages for a long time. Whether this is due to the Q's suppliers being unable ramp up supply fast enough or unwilling to believe the Q's projections, I do not know. Either way, as Qualcomm continues to post good numbers, the various component manufacturers will get the message and dedicate enough manufacturing capability. Also, we already know that in a shortage situation, Qualcomm can manufacture a lot of phones. They will go over 1,000,000 units/month simply by taking over Sony's JV production.

Second, you know that much of interest was not said today because of the imminent secondary offering.

If QCOM does slide down to 139, I'll sell my Lucent (only a triple! but I think in a slow growth mode for a while)to buy more QCOM. As far as GSTRF is concerned, after the @#)($*^ZENIT()*&#COX@$(^ year we've had, it better go to the moon!

Marginmike, you've been around here for a while and have seen this
type of uncertainty before.

The confusion is really unfortunate for those who only listen
to the experts or the press and do not do their own research.
Half of the analysts are not as smart as the long term people on SI.
The other half are either totally on board or are sell side analysts
who take truthful statements about an excellent business and attempt
to twist them around in order to profit from it.

I think this quarter has set the stage for anyone who is willing to
understand Q's business model. They should see that FY00 earnings
could reach $5.00 per share based on 187 mil shares.

This was a great quarter for Q. They continue to experience 20%
sequencial growth each quarter. 11 million ascis is an excellent
indication of new cdma subs being added, a 22% increase over last
quarter. This would easily support new cdma
subs at 40 million on a go forward basis. It is possible that we
will see 60 million new cdma subs added during FY00.

Royalties in FY00 could approach $510 mil in FY00 or $2.72 per
shares (based on 187 mil shares).

At the same time operating margins continue to increase. On a
pro-forma basis Q made ~$61 million (not including royalties)on
approximately $873 mil in rev (not including royalties).
Revenues as well as margins from Comm systems will continue to
grow. It is likely that FY00 revenue from Comm systems and Contract
Services could approach $4.5 Bil. and earnings of $440 mil
or $2.35 per share based on 187 mill shares.

Between Royalties and income from operations the above indicates
$5.07 EPS in FY00 based on 187 million shares -- not to mention
other upside opportunities.

The answer to the dinner question Tofu or Chez depends on
where you were last year with the Q. Many will go to chez
regardless of what Q does tomorrow because we didn't listen
to the experts over the past couple of years. FWIW.
thanks
