Saturn V,
Re:-"but AMD chose to copy Intel exactly, still stick in my mind. The court clearly concluded that AMD 486 was not a clean room design, as claimed by Jerry Sanders. I do not recall if this for ICE microcode, or all microcode.."

I once owned lots of AMD shares and attended the AMD stockholder's meetings in 1994 and again in 1995, both held in New York. (I could be off one year).

At the last meeting I attended, CEO Jerry Sanders was asked a point blank question: " Are you still using Intel's proprietary ICE code?". Mr. Sanders answered: " No, we are no longer the ICE code!"

One month later to the analysts he admitted that AMD was still using the ICE code. That was the catalyst I needed...Sold all my AMD shares and bought Intel!

I never sell Intel (unless I have to ... margin calls) and I am one very happy, greedy, gloating, etc. long term camper,
humble carl
