I never said that we don't need more speed - we do need speed. I simply said that RDRAM won't give you any noticeable speed improvement, which is very different. The more interesting question will be how successful Intel is in trying to force RDRAM on the market. Consumers are pretty stupid, and they may well believe that Rambus sounds cool, and fork over the bucks. But let's be honest, when they pay extra for RDRAM they won't be getting anything for their money unless they have a pretty unusual loopless application. However, just because a device is useless does not mean it won't sell, and therefore RMBS may be a good investment.

Besides the special engineering simulation that I cited, I know of no other loopless desktop application (except for artificially created ones such as a 2MB NOP loop) that would benefit significantly from RDRAM. Do you? I am not familiar with typical cache hit rates on file servers or application servers, so it is possible that servers may be a useful application of RDRAM. Perhaps someone can comment on this.
