Here Wily, This is interesting.nasdaqtrader.com Nasdaq Stock Market© introduced a new Internet Protocol (IP) multicasting version of its data feeds for production use on July 6, 1999. Based on recent statistics, the new, higher speed network was implemented just in time to handle the rising message traffic. During the second quarter of 1999, Nasdaq© approached the maximum utilization rate for its legacy bisynchronous protocol data feeds during peak market hours. For the three-month period ending June 30, 1999, the maximum peak rates for the Level 1 ServiceSM, Nasdaq Quotation Dissemination ServiceSM (NQDS), and Nasdaq Trade Dissemination ServiceSM (NTDS) were as follows: Nasdaq Data Feed 1-Minute Peak Rate 5-Minute Peak Rate Average Message Size Level 1 74.5 messages/second 56.2 messages/second 71.6 characters NQDS (A-E) 81.2 messages/second 63.1 messages/second 82.9 characters NQDS (F-N) 75.1 messages/second 52.4 messages/second 79.3 characters NQDS (O-Z) 73.6 messages/second 61.5 messages/second 80.5 characters NTDS (A-J) 107.0 messages/second 105.1 messages/second 44.5 characters NTDS (K-Z) 106.0 messages/second 105.0 messages/second 44.4 characters These traffic statistics were compiled for the Level 1 (56 kbps), NQDS (3 x 56 kbps), and NTDS (2 x 56 kbps) bisychronous protocol line configurations. The dates and times of the maximum peak rates varied by data feed line. In order to keep pace with the increasing message traffic, Nasdaq highly recommends that its customers migrate to the new, higher speed IP multicasting version of its Level 1, NQDS, and NTDS data feeds immediately
