Anyone used AskJeeves?
askjeeves.com
I did tonight. I asked "How do you tie a tie." Of course I know how. <g>I wanted to see what the butler had for an answer (i.e does it really work?). Well, the first thing that popped up was how to tie a bow tie...So off I went. And sure enough I learned how to tie the Double Windsor and 4-in-hand...(already knew)... knots. I didn't know the DW but did the other. I guess the old fella did pretty good.

Maybe one to watch the developments closely . ASKJ is one of the few pure searchers out there. BOUT about.com is another, but I believe it aspires to be more of a portal.

The future of searching?

It could be. Many times it is easier to come up with a question that narrows down your search enormously. The only problem...I will miss all of the rif raf that comes up when one or two keywords are entered. It's because of the endless hours flipping through the 6000000 links that are returned to find what you really are after. <smile>

Wow, did you know Yahoo has something similar...ASK Yahoo. Just found out posing the same question to see what happened and this is one of the links that was returned.

howto.yahoo.com

It is slightly different though..It seems that the Yahoo people go do the search for you and come back with an answer it they decide they like your question. NOT!

Have a good evening.
