There must be a point where companies should as Barrick become take over targets. If the price of gold goes low enough the net asset value of the unmined gold becomes close to zero while at the same time they are sitting on a pile of cash. They might have to be very carefull as to whom they might devour. A reverse take over might not be something to rule out. Especially if this were followed by a shut down of all production after buying enough options to cover their short positions. This would be a move to preserve assets until the price of gold recovered. Just a thought.

Cheers,

JR.
