RE:Kimball-Thanks for your good thoughts-"New subject for a moment"-You might enjoy William Safire's NYT column this morning on the Kennedy loss.Such clarity of thought and balance-He and Neil Armstrong (a Phi Delta Theta-fraternity brother) are my hero's -especially this AM.Back to DELL-I sometimes worry that great wealth and attention the "media/tech conferences etc" will dilute the focus of the management team-Observation-Tom Merrideth looked tired!MD give him some Figi Island time!Best, wbm

Kemble,

RE: .....At the end of the fourth qt...
"WE WILL TAKE PAIN TO CAUSE MUCH PAIN"

THIS MAKES SO much sense in the past few quarters, DELL has been taking PAIN in the form of lower than desired (by us) earnings.
DELL is building a base of new customers that it has won from its competition. That pain will eventually do two things, lower expectations from analysts for future DELL growth (30 vs 50%), and build a larger base of business customers that DELL can exploit with more and more of its complementary business offerings.
