I know I posted before about Borges, but I think it was on DAR. I think he is truly great, and have been a fan of his since the 1970's, and believe I have a copy of everything he wrote, at least everything that's been translated. I have not re-read his stuff in a while, but I am going to post a link to Borges on the Internet for you on edit.

He came to Tulane while I was a student, can't remember exactly when, I know he toured after he got the Nobel and shortly before he died. I don't even remember what he said, although I recall being thrilled by it. I was very surprised to see that he was blind, and had to be led around. His bearing, demeanor and gestures were very courtly, very European in that Argentine way (I used to date a boy from Argentina, his whole family acted like that, too.) I went up afterwards to shake his hand during the reception, but he seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by all the people, so I left him alone.
