Deutsche Telekom in talks for AOL stake
Compiled by CBS MarketWatch

LONDON -- (CBS.MW) -- Deutsche Telekom AG (DT: news, msgs) is in talks to
acquire a minority stake in American Online Inc. (AOL: news, msgs), according to
sources familiar with the negotiations. The companies have offered no details
except to say talks are at an advanced stage. The deal requires regulatory approval
and comes as Deutsche Telekom's chairman Ron Sommer makes aggressive moves
to expand the company's T-Online Internet unit which currently has 3.3 million
subscribers. In June, Sommer announced that T-Online, at present only active in
German, would expand within Germany and then into other European countries. The
deal would significantly boost Deutsche Telekom's goal to boost its online
presence, while AOL would benefit from increased access to Deutsche Telekom's
customers. The Wall Street Journal from a report in the German Handelsblatt.
