Also noticed that without the large decrease in interest expense even after allowing for reduction in tax, the company would've reported lower net income than year ago. What was the large interest expense incurred for?

Looking at raw AR dollar amount is useless if revenue is growing. It is DSO that is important since that is expressed in terms of the companys sales.
And as the article stated DSO fell by 8 days. But analysts always have to "eye" everything else you just cant be paid for wearing suits everyday to work.

Accounts Receivables worries for LU..keeping my fingers crossed.

Could you expand on this, please? Are you concerned the AR's will become uncollectable?
