Internet access, W/W population
I recently saw an Intel quote that W/W internet access would increase 6 fold to 1 billion by 2005.
Other reports show a much different scenario. Current estimates of W/W population with internet access range between ~175 - 200 million. (Note, population with internet access is not the same as connected PC's).
A recent report on internet access by language shows 128 million English speaking users, and 88 million non English speaking. The English speaking population, (native language), represents about 5.5% of W/W population, and 32% of W/W GDP. (About $33,000 per capita).

Chinese speaking population represents about 15% of W/W population, but GDP per capita is only $3,500. (It's estimated that ~4 million Chinese have internet access, and that there are about 1.5 million connected PC's in China).

A June 1999 report by Computer Economics forecasts W/W 350 million internet users in 2005. They also show that 57% of users will be non-English speaking in 2005.

A case could be made that internet access by the English speaking population is approaching saturation, (approximately 40% of English speaking have access, less than 2% non-English), and that future growth will come more from non-English population. (However, the per capita GDP of W/W non-English population is about $4,200. A tough market).
Estimating and forecasting internet usage isn't very precise. (The variance between those analyzing the demographics speak to that). But the trends appear clear.
Just my opinions, of course.

Wayne, Yesterday the Yen unwound the entire month's worth of dollar support by the Bank of Japan. With the new trade deficit numbers, Soros could end up with a big smile on his face, if that EVER happens. <g>

Wayne:

Soros' Quantum has been betting against dollar since early this year (or late last year). I saw it in Stanley Drunkenmiller (Quantum's manager) comments. And I also read some trader said Stan would be right, but his timing was a little bit earlier.
