Here in Baltimore, just bringing a news paper (USA Today doesn't count) to the jury room will work. Defense lawyers don't want people who are actually informed or literate. I know people in the city that have stopped voting (they take the jury names from the voting list) so they won't get called.
We have so many trials in the city that they are running out of people (that aren't convicted felons) for the juries and sometimes call people every year. I'm outside the city and have only gotten one notice and then didn't even have to appear.
My cleaning lady, Hazel (whom I love like a mother), says she just goes up and says, "Everybody know them po-lice lie" and it gets her off every time.
