Everyone-

Back a couple weeks ago, people were posting here suggesting we each go to Goto and search for "Casino" and click a few banners to add $7 or so to Goto's bottom line. I was/am against that because I think that doing so would be good in the short-term but as the ratio of paying leads to clickthroughs dropped, the advertisers would lower their bids.

At the same time, I am very much in favor of everyone here putting the goto search box on their web sites, because (according to my math several posts back) they may pay out 2 cents per clickthrough but they will get almost 3 cents in revenue. So Goto comes out ahead.

So, my opinion is that we should each try to promote the goto search box to everyone we know... more goto searches = more traffic = more revenue = higher stock price (for reasons that are much sounder than each of us clicking on casino every day.). This gives us a chance to be proactive in increasing Goto's net value.

Anyway, after I had this thought, I did something like this on my web site. Check out holymarket.com (skip the first four items as they probably won't interest you) and you'll see my little pitch for the "Goto" box. I think that a direct pitch like that one will be more effective than the little blue "make money with goto" bit that Goto adds to the affiliate search box. If you get alot of traffic to your site, those 2 cents' really add up. Plus I do all my own web searches on my site :-). Additionally, since I'm a Goto advertiser, I made a pitch about advertising with Goto.

Just a thought... figured I'd try to come up with something positive to do on such a down day on the street.

-Mike

Mike,

I appreciate your calculations. However, don't forget that :

1) the 2 or 3 cents they pay to affiliates are 100% paid by the
468x60 banner in the top of the screen (on a $30/1000 view basis).

==> affiliation program = cost zero

2) I am bidding on a big number of terms, specially in french. I am amazed how I have to "fight" on several words. A month ago I bought the word "humour" for 1 cents and I was alone. Now we are 9 and I am paying 3 cents (+200% in a month) to be number 1 (my website is humour.com). It's the same evolution with 50% of the term I am bidding on.

My conclusion is :

- trafic is increasing sharply on Goto due to a very sexy affiliation program. IMO, we should see 30% growth per quarter during the next 12months

- bids are at least tripling per quarter in AVERAGE (not on popular terms like casino or books...) Once again this is a global average I am seeing on few hundreds of terms.

My conclusion is we can see at least a 200 % growth from quarter to quarter, at least for 12-18 months. It means a x3.

Q1 = 1.5
Q2 = 4.5
Q3 = 13.5
Q4 = 40

I was first of all a simple advertiser, then I became a shareholder.

YOU HAVE ALL TO BID IF YOU REALLY WANT TO UNDERSTAND GOTO !!! (and not to sell it at $50 because stupid analysts compare it with GNET or ASKJ).
