Did anyone see the CNBC segment a little while ago discussing those SBA loans for Y2K remediation for small business? Commentators were joking that the government's trying to give money away, and no one will take it.

Seems SBA Y2K loans were made available two months ago with very loose, favorable terms to encourage remediation.

$500 million is available. Only $1.4 million has been loaned out so far!!!

Lotta nervous laughter and jokes on air. They couldn't understand why none of these small businesses were taking advantage of these loans - particularly with such favorable conditions.

One theory was the "Ostrich" theory, where businesses had their heads in the sand and just don't think Y2K is a big problem.

The other theory was that these small businesses either don't use many computers or have relatively new software and/or hardware and, therefore, think there's no need to do any Y2K remediation.

One guy piped in, that maybe the SBA hasn't promoted loan availablity properly, and small businesses don't realize that these funds are available.

Didn't sound encouraging to me.

Excellent find B.K.

Back to the market. The ship maybe coming in, but I'll hold off until I hear AG on Thurs.

Anyone want to play "Where will the DJIA or NAZ close today?"

Surviving With Style

Todays Washington Post Food section has a couple of article about surviving Y2K "With Style"

Have you consulted the predictions of Nostradamus? Read Revelations recently? If you're worried about what Y2K might mean for the foodie, here are some survival tips:

washingtonpost.com

I found the following quote rather humorous after reading some of the postings on this thread:

"Salt is a basic; ketchup is a luxury."

Overall, the article are rather "light-weight", but I suppose by putting the articles in the Food section, they reach a different audience that might not have Y2K on their radar scopes yet.
