The answer is yes and yes.....

the Panja 1000 is currently priced at $2500, this includes a touch panel and a box that interfaces to the internet via a broadband link and also interfaces to the home audio video components.

It will be a profitable device for pnja to sell. However, the usefulness of the device will be driven by the various services provided by pnja.

Broadband blast ($19.95 a month) will provide downloadable information and audio/video content from a mirror server farm where infoseek provides the content. I won't be buying cd's again once my panja system is installed next year.

The nice thing about the panja design is that since it is inherently an internet attached device, the core software can be updated via the internet.

Panja will be providing other services on a subscription basis. Perhaps you'd want to manage your home from the web somewhere? Maybe check out how the nanny is doing, or whether the plumber is smoking in the bathroom?

I'm not sure the consumer will bear the brunt of the full $2500 price tag. It sure would be a great device to drive demand for broadband services if you were a cable company or telco. maybe it will be part of the monthly services. An initial telco order might be 25,000 to 50,000 units.

There are other interesting things brewing at pnja, lots of interesting things brewing.
