This is really what we have been waiting for....a self installation kit!!!!!!

Look again. It is not a self installation kit. Thats about 6 months away.
But it is still seriously good marketing news. Build the brand and you will win.

The kit offers coupons worth up to $90 in savings for the consumer; $50 off the standard installation price and a free month of service, valued at $40 in most markets. The kit also features the @Home Preview CD-ROM and the @Home Welcome Guide, which provides consumers a preview of the @Home service even before they are completely wired.

What I keep wanting to see is where CC or BB or Radio Shack starts helping with the installs.

Another nice tidbit:

On Tuesday ATHM announced a deal to offer its high-speed service and a pre-installation kit at the consumer electronics chain Circuit City Stores . Bell said the company planned to pursue more partnerships that will make it easier for consumers to install the service,

"If consumers are able to walk into a retail outlet, get hooked up to the service, go home and install it, it lessens our dependence on cable operators," Bell said. ((andrea.orrreuters.com, Palo Alto newsroom, (650) 846-5400))

Yes IMO, as all types of computer hardware improves, the day is soon coming when self installation will work for a growing number of installations. A shrinking number of people will require an onsite technicians assistance. In addition the growing force of technicians doing the installs will become better trained and proficient.

I am very happy with the new sub number. ATHM has dampened demand and slowed installs in certain areas to sort out technical problems. These problems may make a few people unhappy in the short run but IMO it is better that just adding subs as rapidly as possible and then disappointing a larger number of people. It is best to sort the problems out now and in the long run. Installations of ATHM service will continue at a minimum 35% growth rate. I actually expect the sub growth rate to be over 35% soon due to improved technology in several areas.

In the meantime, I am still holding all my ATHM shares. It is my biggest holding. IMO, I will make a lot of money by holding ATHM stock, it is only a matter of time. LOOK! I have good company in my fellow stockholders too.
