Anyone! Is VoDSL (WSTL's niche) going to benefit from the Net2Phone(NTOP) and ICQ agreement? Is Net2Phone optimized for DSL yet? Is a AOL- VoDSL offering in the cards? Incidentally, NTOP IPO's tomorrow!

ICQ, Inc. and Net2Phone Sign Four-Year, Multi-Million Dollar Internet
Telephony Agreement

DULLES, Va., Jul 20, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) -- ICQ to
Distribute Net2Phone Internet Telephony Services to Create Global
Internet Calling Network; Will Enable ICQ Members to Place and
Receive Calls Between Computers and Phones

ICQ/Net2Phone Relationship to Include ICQ Internet Telephony
Calling Card and Free PC-to-PC Calls for ICQ Members

ICQ, the world's largest online communications community
(www.icq.com), has entered into a four-year agreement with Net2Phone, a
leading Internet Telephony provider (www.net2phone.com).

Under the terms of the deal, Net2Phone's Internet Telephony services
will be provided through ICQ to give anyone with an ICQ membership, a
PC and Internet access the ability to place and receive voice phone
calls through the Internet. These Internet Telephony services will
carry the ICQ brand, will be powered by Net2Phone, and will provide
ICQ's more than 38 million registrants with low-cost international and
domestic voice telephone calling capabilities.

In connection with the agreement, ICQ will work with Net2Phone to
create numerous ICQ-branded Internet Telephony products and services.
First, this fall, ICQ will offer its members an ICQ-branded Internet
Telephony phone card, which will give such members the ability to make
low-cost phone-to-phone calls using the Internet as a carrier. Later,
Net2Phone and ICQ will unveil other services to allow ICQ members
located virtually anywhere in the world to place and receive voice
telephone calls in at least three different ways:

-- Phone-to-PC: This option will allow an ICQ member to place a call
from a traditional phone to another ICQ member's Internet-enabled PC
(equipped with standard computer speakers and a microphone);

-- PC-to-Phone: This option will allow an ICQ member to place a call
from his or her Internet-enabled PC to another ICQ member listening and
speaking through a traditional telephone;

-- PC-to-PC: This option will allow two ICQ members with
Internet-enabled PCs to place and receive voice telephone calls using
their standard computer speakers and microphones.

ICQ members will be able to sign up for the IP Telephony services
directly through a secure transaction area on the ICQ Web site using
their existing credit card. The services will not require any special
hardware beyond a typical, Internet-enabled multi-media computer with
speakers and a microphone. This new service will initially be offered
free of charge for PC-to-PC calls, offering ICQ members a comparatively
cheap, fun and convenient way to keep in touch with friends and family.

"Now, ICQ members all over the world will be able to communicate with
one another by talking, not just typing," said Donn Davis, COO of AOL
Interactive Properties Group, which oversees the ICQ service. "With
Net2Phone, we will introduce ICQ members to yet another revolutionary
way to use the Internet to better communicate with their friends and
colleagues in a fun and affordable way."

About ICQ:

Created in 1996 by the Israel-based company, Mirabilis, and acquired
by America Online, Inc. in June 1998, the ICQ proprietary interactive
service is the world's largest communications community with more than
38 million registrants worldwide.

The ICQ service is a communications portal built around the ability to
seek and communicate with your friends, family and colleagues online.
ICQ's unique, very popular, free software (available for download at
www.icq.com) is loaded with vital and fun communications tools such as
its flagship instant messaging and real-time chat features, plus Web
functionality such as ICQ iT! search, and ICQ White Pages, which allow
members to find like-minded members within the ICQ community. ICQ is
part of the AOL Interactive Properties Group.

Westell & Fujitsu

<<Borrowed from DR on the Orckit thread.........>>

According to this Westell is partnered w/ Fujitsu for BT:

dslprime.com

ALSO, A MUST READ dslprime.com

British Telecom begins big rollout They plan to wire 400 exchanges serving 6,000,000 homes and offices by next spring, using equipment to be supplied by Alcatel and Fujitsu/Orckit. Gavin Young of BT is Chairman of the Technical Committee of the ADSL Forum, and
much of the development work on ADSL was done at BT.
We'll have more -details in a few days.

ERRATA Westell, not Orckit, is the source of equipment for the Fujitsu part of British Telecom's DSL rollout. Thanks to Gavin Young for pointing out our mistake.

Deals Westell recently signed---an OEM agreement with Fujitsu, presumably in anticipation of Fujitsu's winning the BT contract (which they shared with Alcatel). Westell also announced agreements with the three key VoDSL vendors, CopperCom, Tollbridge, and Jetstream ••• Orckit has a large opportunity in
Germany with DT, and continues to supply Fujitsu in the US for GTE. Nigel Cole of Orckit told us they are near the top in market share, behind Alcatel but comparable to anyone else •••

------

Since Gavin Young works at BT, I would consider him a reliable source but why wouldn't Westell announce this?? are they waiting for earnings? Could ORCT still supply the chips or receive royalties from sales of the KeyWave?
