Excite@Home Second Quarter Earnings - 6:49 PM EST - TK
Excite@Home (ATHM) reported second quarter earnings in line with estimates today with a net loss of $217.9 million or $0.76 cents per share. Revenue was $100.4 million, double last year's $42.2 million.

Subscriber growth remained strong with 620,000 customers on June 30th. This is a 35% gain from March and triple last year's total. Excite.com also had an impressive 81 million pageviews per day in June with 38 million registered users.

The CEO stated that the year 2000 will be the "breakout" year for the company as more two-way cable gets laid and upgraded across the country. The biggest fear for Excite@Home and AT&T (the company's largest shareholder) is the legal issue of open ISP access. Most analysts expect the FCC to respect AT&T and Excite@Home's monopoly offering of net access over their cable lines, however nothing is guaranteed in this business.
