Yeah, Lucent needs to send some chief around to the financial news shows, etc to talk to the talking heads and clarify some ambiguities. Lucent was really getting slammed today and the inference that the big funds were bailing out because Lucent big shots left a lot to be desired when giving guidance.

MMW,

At Dow 8500 you also said we won't see Dow 10,000 for 20 years. That was a little over a year ago. Now you want to tell the LU thread what you predict for LU, what a joke!

MMV, DO not post idiotic misinformation here. LU management never said they will miss fiscal 2000, they guided the analysts estimates by 5-7 cents upwards fro fisca,l 2000. Yes, they said the seasonality of December quarter that was seen previously will be smooth this year for two reasons. 1. LU is trying to smooth the earnings and revenues and avoid lumpiness of Q1. 2. Y2K may ,once again may postpone software sales to January quarter. Either way the 2000 fiscal year should be very good. The conference call was very bullish. Why don't you listen to it before posting STUPID misinformation.

MMW,

LU did not warn on the 4th quarter of 99, but rather the usually excessive first quarter earnings ending in December. LU is not slowing down nor is there any indication that management would misguide investors. LU expects, says and therefore will exceed earnings estimates by 5-7 cents, yielding 1.53-1.55 next year. I also expect that since LU typically beats by at least 2 cents per quarter, that this number will better 1.60 per share. Imo, LU is flattening earnings over the 4 quarters.

The Frontier deal specifically says that LU is building the network to be ready for all VOIP by 2002. The other deal mentioned is in Spain, I believe. It was announced as about a $200 million deal over 3 years or so.

I believe that you need to be accurate if you are to post information.

What are you betting on? What other company of this magnitude and global reach grows earnings at 30% year over year?

MSFT claims to be expecting growth at 14%, expects earnings of 1.54 per share, yet trades in the 90's...go figure.
