Samsung Electronics Forecasts US$850M in SRAM Shipments in 1999
July 22, 1999 (SEOUL) -- With the fast-growing telecommunications and Internet markets, static RAM (SRAM) chips are emerging as one of the hottest export items for Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

The company, which is the world's largest memory chip maker, said it enjoyed sales profits of US$749 million for SRAMs last year, and expect exports to total US$850 million for 1999.

"Demand for SRAMs have been on the rise since last year," a Samsung official said. "We expect sales profits to top US$800 million this year."

SRAMs are more lucrative than DRAMs, and are currently traded at around US$16 per 4Mb SRAM. SRAMs come mainly in 1M, 2M and 4M types, and can process data at speeds of between 270-300 MHz.
