Open-access fight begins in Michigan

Shortly before Michigan?s Legislature was scheduled to recess, four state senators introduced a bill that would require cable operators to allow access to their broadband networks to outside Internet service providers. A similar bill introduced in California?s General Assembly earlier this month was unable to garner sufficient votes to move out of committee. One of the Michigan bill?s sponsors is state Sen. Chris Dingell?son of U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), a vocal proponent of open-access.
