Sounds like the Sony corporate strategy. Have generation "C" ready for production and generation "B" in production as you release generation "A".

I buy the 860 and thought I got a deal

The 860 is a dual-mode (analog and CDMA). The $99 is for the single-mode (CDMA only) version. Also, some carriers offer the phone for less to attract new customers, existing customers pay a bit more. How much did you pay?
