<enjoyed you sharing your birdseye view of the televised jackson county tidbit you mentioned in one of your earlier notes this week. just where IS jackson county? some place in Oregon? > Southern Oregon. About 30 miles from California border. <am also wondering if that TV sister of yours to whom you reverently and affectionately refer to has started to come around at all yet to your y2k way of thinking? > She's still angry that I left "the lifestyle of the rich & famous" behind in Houston, to move to Oregon. And, attributes it all to Y2K. Y2K was the catalyst - but, I was ready to move on before then. Probably wouldn't have picked Oregon under "normal" circumstances. Though where I live is a delightful spot, with good down-to-earth people. She never says anything in anger. But, you can see it on her face. She realizes that Y2K is serious, but it's hard to accept and deal with. She's doing what she can. I'm single, with no children. But, her situation is different from mine. She has a full-time job (camera"man" for FOX), 3 kids (6-15) and a husband in mid-50's with diabetes, who had a heart by-pass operation and a stroke. You'd never know to look at him. But, none-the-less, that's the situation. And, as you'll recall - she's on thyroid medication. Her husband has a law practice (specialized in Workers Compensation) ... which he has to shut down. No savings. She's been basically supporting the family past few months. She wants to have a couple of months of prescription drugs - but, can't afford it. Her meds are only about $75/month (which she can afford) ... but his are several hundred dollars/month (which they can't afford). Insurance won't pay for extra meds. My sister can't even renew her prescription, with insurance coverage, until 3 days before prescription ends. So, renewing meds early to build up supply doesn't work. After I sent her the article about Sen. Bennett & his 55-gallon water container - she went out and bought one too. She's been buying bottled water and saving those 1 litre coke bottles for extra. She's been buying extra food. Has enough ketchup to feed an army. Kids like that stuff. She's really doing what she can. But, it's hard for her. She has to be at the station filming by 5AM. When she gets home around 2PM she has the kids, house and husband to take care of. I tried to limit any Y2K discussion while she was visiting. She needed a break. If things get really, really bad ... I have enough for the whole family. But, TV station already told all people on the floor that vacations are cancelled. So she can't come. She has to support the family. She'd be willing to send the kids up here. But, if things got really, really bad ... would people know in adequate time to relocate? Who knows. We're all doing the best that we can. She's trying to get at least 2-weeks worth of stuff. In my opinion, it's not adequate. But it's a moot point. They don't have the money right now. And she has to hide and make excuses for what she buys cause her husband thinks I'm a Y2K wacko. Mom has to hide what she buys from dad. This is SO ridiculous. And, so sad. But, that's the real world out there. Cheryl P.S. I knew who you were (you know where), cause you never use any CAPS.
