Tri-Vision International Ltd TVL
Shares issued 48,577,396 Jul 20 close $2.16
Wed 21 Jul 99 News Release
Mr. Najmul Siddiqui reports
Toshinori Ikebe of Nichimen Corporation of Japan has been appointed to the
company's board of directors. The announcement follows news in Stockwatch
May 14, 1999, that Nichimen Corporation had acquired 2.5 million common
shares of Tri-Vision in private transactions representing approximately 5
per cent of the 48,757,396 common shares of Tri-Vision currently issued and
outstanding.
"The appointment of Mr. Ikebe to the board further solidifies the close
working relationship between Nichimen and Tri-Vision International," said,
Tri-Vision president and chief executive officer, Najmul Siddiqui. "Mr.
Ikebe's vast international experience and track record with Nichimen will
enhance Tri-Vision's position in global markets and provide the company
with new opportunities."
In March, 1998, Tri-Vision began working with Nichimen Corporation to form
an exclusive agreement to jointly apply expertise, resources and commitment
for the purpose of deploying Tri-Vision's patented, flexible V-gis v-chip
technology in Japan, Asia and Europe. Nichimen is currently assisting
Tri-Vision in the licensing of its V-gis v-chip technology to major
television manufacturers located primarily in those regions.
Mr. Ikebe joined Nichimen Corporation in 1969. Since that time he has been
involved in the company's plant and project division acting as a senior
representative in such places as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and London. As general
manager for the plant and project department in London from 1994 to 1998,
Mr. Ikebe was responsible for projects in the areas of Europe, Russia,
Middle East, Africa and Canada. He is currently senior general manager of
the plant and project division at the Nichimen head office in Tokyo and is
responsible for projects in areas around the globe. Mr. Ikebe is a graduate
of the Osaka University of Foreign Affairs.
Established in 1892, Nichimen Corporation is one of the world's leading
international trading companies with net sales in the fiscal year ended
March 31, 1998, totalling $29.1-billion (U.S.). Nichimen is a diversified
Japanese business group with an extensive network of overseas offices in 96
cities around the globe. Nichimen has interests in power generation,
chemicals, pipelines, water treatment, telecommunication and construction
and is energetically expanding its operations in such growth industries as
information processing, communications and environmental protection.
Tri-Vision's globally acclaimed V-gis v-chip technology meets all Federal
Communications Commission requirements in the United States and is the only
v-chip technology, available to TV manufacturers or as a set top decoder
for existing TVs, that is able to automatically reconfigure in the field.
Tri-Vision continues its efforts, with the assistance of the telewire
supply division of ANTEC Corporation, to make its V-gis set top decoder
product available to U.S. consumers through leading cable operators. In
addition to activities relating to its v-chip technology, the company is
increasing its efforts to expand the markets for its traditional CATV
product lines such as infrared remote controls, regular converter lines and
addressable Pay-TV systems.
