I can't understand this, 1024 should be easily doable on a 12.1 display.

I think this is a voluntary move by Apple to keep the iBook from eating too much into the sales of higher end models. Personally I'm pissed off, I want the iBook, but I can't take 800x600, sorry. I would pay happily 500 hundred bucks more for a screen upgrade!
I do expect the iBook to be immensely successful though!
On Yahoo board (not sure what's the source): AAPL ORDERED 1 MILLION UNITS FROM ALPHA (http://messages.yahoo.com/bbs?action=m&board=4686874&tid=aapl&sid=4686874&mid=58142)

WOW! Just got back from watching the keynote. Jobs was on fire.

Highlights:

IBM's ViaVoice
Bungie's Halo
Apple's AirPort

And, of course,

iBook. The thing is sweet. I don't have any need for a portable, but the iBook is just pretty damned cool. Look for more colors soon, I'd wager.

Funny, the only glitch in the keynote was a problem with IE. Go figure!
