Joan,

Thanks for the post and link.. I agree wholeheartedly.. The press, itself likes to perpetuate the "liberal myth".. and the folks buy it as usual because they don't stop and think it out as people like you do..

Interesting article.

I did a quick look at Edward Herman's background. His PhD is from Berkeley, hardly a hotbed of conservatism. He has co-authored three books with Noam Chomsky.

An interesting quote from an interview with him:

"EH: The most important changes over the past several decades have been
corporate capitalism's increasingly global perspective and reach, its
increasing intolerance of welfare state commitments and labor organization
and the social contract, and its willingness to attack these in various modes
of intensified class warfare. "

Note the mention of "intensified class warfare." A classic Marxist argument, matched with open concern about capitalism.

I didn't dig very far into his background, but what I did find suggests that he is far to the left, possibly (probably?) a Marxist economist. And a man whose writings appear clearly position-based, not objective.

So it is hardly surprising that he attacks those who believe that there is a liberal bias in the media.

It's so much fun watching you guys argue about whether the media is biased in favor of the liberals or the conservatives. Having both liberals and conservatives in the family, I've been listening to and reading the same arguments on both sides for at least 20 years, maybe more. Neither side ever persuades the other one, or admits defeat. I call it the "Mom always liked you best!" argument.
