RE: 3D Workstations >> "The capabilities that are unleashed with this
platform should not be underestimated, IMHO. " <<

Very true . Not sure but G4 may be both 64 (IBM) and 128 bit (MOT-added instructions) but with either one AAPL has a opportunity .

AAPL's OS will be a major factor . Hopefully we will see more at Seybold-SF 8/31/99 as MSFT's NT ain't cutting it:

=====
"Sales of personal [i.e., NT-equipped] workstations in the EDA space
have been disappointing," said Jim Wagner, market segment manager for the workstation division of Compaq Computer Corp. in Littleton, Mass.

"In part, all the discussion around Linux [the open-source
operating system that has surged into the market] slowed things down.
As much as anything the problem has simply been an emotional issue in
the market....

...It's really a matter of application migration and of OS preferences. There are a lot of existing [Unix] scripts and tools that don't port easily to NT.

Also, there's an affinity for Unix among EDA users that's stronger than what I've seen in other market segments."

Seems like AAPL's UNIX based Server OS X , then OS X , with friendly GUI could fit the "higher revenue" EDA bill on high powered (G4) Workstations .
