America Online Inks DSL Deal with Ameritech - 2:42 PM EST - TK
America Online (AOL) inked a DSL deal with Ameritech today. The company will
charge an extra $20/month for high-speed internet access over DSL lines starting in
the fall in Illnois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. AOL has also started
cable modem trials with various companies and recently showed a demostration
with GTE.

The broadband war is starting to take shape with AT&T/Excite@Home on one
side and AOL/Baby Bells on the other. With this third DSL deal with a Baby Bell,
AOL will have hi-speed broadband coverage to 55% of U.S. households.
