To evaluate the economic impact you have to do realistic calculations. Budgets are based on anticipated needs versus revenues projected. This accident and the associated costs will be used to determine (in part) the budget for the next year.

According to your logic, there would still be not "cost" if one of the SCUBA divers died trying to retrieve the bodies because the man power was there anyway.

If the $$$ were not real, then they would not be flashing the cost of this adventure all over the T.V.

We do not have a "surplus" of revenues, what we have is an "overpayment" on the part of the taxpayers that should be returned in the form of tax cuts.
