Charles, it's the "Kodak Moment" captured in time. A three year old does not even know what a salute is..... as far as we know, he may have been shielding his eyes from the sun. More realistically, he was prompted to perform this "impromtu salute" just when a photographer was rolling the film. How convenient. In fact, looking at the film shows that Jackie is turning him around and nudging him to "do it".... look closely and you will see her prompting little John John, just as the camera appears. I'm amazed at how little coverage the two servicemen killed in Kosovo got.... they left families and wives behind as well.... but not a word until Monday night because the press was too busy watching people litter the sidewalk with stuff that will likely see the bottom of the dumpster before any Kennedy family member sees it.
