I didn't think you could buy IPO shares on margin either . . but I did. ETRADE moved my Lucent stock over to MARGIN and put my ETRADE in the resulting cash account. Can the get away with that?

Well, that is what I heard. I think a customer of Datek did short some COOL a couple of days after its IPO. It is up to you whether believe it or not.
