Jim, Thanks for saying what I wanted to say. You are correct. The only presidential kin, past or present, who would get this much governmental money spent on recovering their body would be Chelsea Clinton (and only because her dad is in charge). I live a block away from Amy Carter and I can promise you, everyone in the neighborhood knows who she is, but none of us see groupies hanging out at her doorstep (a la JFK Jr) at all hours of the day and night. She seems like a very nice person, and her and her husband keep to themselves and maintain a very low profile--very nice people. I'd be willing to bet she is the only presidential offspring who has a "We brew our own beer" bumper sticker on the back of her American-built car. If, God forbid, something bad happened to her, I can assure you that there wouldn't be these freaks holding 24-hour vigils in front of her house. The press would spend 1 day max covering her untimely demise. And if one of the Bush family members were to, God forbid, mistakenly pilot a plane into the Atlantic, tree-hugger Al Gore would seize the opportunity and say that their wreckage *shouldn't* be recovered because retrieving it from the ocean floor could possibly disturb the environment. Don't get me wrong, I think it's sad that JFK Jr ended up the way he did. But let's face it: here is a guy who had more fun and excitement in 38 years than most people have in a lifetime. Let's put it into perspective. And the prior posters are correct: if you dump a plane into the ocean, don't hold your breath for the government to come and fish you out. Those are priveleges for royalty only.
