Yep, saw that, and I do regard ECNs as a mortal threat to NITE, no matter what PR NITE puts out.

I listened to the hour-long conference call and it was very encouraging. It is only a matter of time until more analysts will re-iterate their strong buys.

Pasternak reiterated that there is essentially no significant player even attempting to enter their space with similar technology. They will be proceeding with E-NITE and there will also be significant media coverage for other events.

Furthermore, KP said ECN's don't pose a significant threat, and in fact, some have contacted NITE (not the other way around) to discuss some level of cooperation (again I'm paraphrasing what KP said). KP said this is an interesting recognition [admission] by ECN mgmt that ECN's are not the best solution.

I would read into this that we can expect to see some kind of ECN partnership announcements sooner or later (Instinet?).

BTW, when Pasternak was asked specifically about the SCH, Fidelity, DLJ SPear ECN partnership, he indicated that they didn't view the announcement as an important event.

Pasternak said, and I quote, he's "very, very bullish about transactional volume trends."

He also said that "sometimes we [NITE mgmt] get frustrated that we don't have the PE of SCHWAB, for example."

He made comparisons between NITE and MSFT,DELL,CSCO,SCH two times: Once when he mentioned that NITE's stock performance is becoming detached from the OLB's.

Another time when mentioning that if "you pole vault over 23 feet, can you do 25 feet?" [The analogy applies to NITE's substantial runup: Some holders may feel that the marginal gains from here will be harder to attain]. KP countered with: The good companies, like the MSFT's, the DELL's, the SCH's, have always answered with a second and third generation answer... [to define ways to continue their exponential growth].

I gather KP views NITE in the same league as MSFT, DELL, SCH, CSCO.

There's more, but not enough time to write it all down.

Anyone else have anything to add from the cc?

A nice way to play ECN is through ITG. They're cooperating with Blumberg and are a real NITE threat. ITG was up yesterday.
