Michael

It's just like the GM vs AOL PE ratio comparison. Two different business's. Both companies are in the Internet/E-Commerce business but not the same business. AOL doesn't trade stock and E-Trade is not an ISP.

Michael,

AOL reported $1.377 billion in revenues for the quarter.

How much revenue did E*Trade report for their most recent quarter?

Where did you get the equal revenue figure E-Trade group?
Etrade's 1999 revenue is $515 M and AOL's revenue is $4.8B,
more than 9 times Etrade's revenue. Etrade still posts loss
while AOL makes money.

AOL has the same revenues as E-Trade however, its market cap is about 16 times
as high as E-Trade's (125Bn vs. 8Bn). Both companies are in the
Internet/E-Commerce business and are growing at about the same rate. Could
anybody explain the difference in valuation ? I do not get it.....
