Siemens Chooses Open Market's Transact Transact to be the Commerce Engine Behind The Siemens Mall

BURLINGTON, Mass., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Market, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMKT - news), a leading provider of Internet commerce software, today announced that Siemens Business Services GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens AG, the largest global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics, has licensed Open Market's Transact to power the Siemens Mall. The mall will allow approximately 50 different Siemens businesses in a range of countries to sell products and services in a ''Global Mall.'' The spectrum of products covered by these business units extends from refrigerators to computer systems.

The first ''store'' in the mall developed by Siemens Business Services, Open Market, and other partners is the Automation and Drives (A&D) business unit. A&D is the world's most comprehensive supplier of products and systems for the factory and process automation markets for logistics automation. This Siemens business unit develops and manufactures all the components required for the automation of machines, plants and processes, and specializes in automation for the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries, the capital goods and commodity industries, as well as for logistics automation in all sectors. This store went live in early April. The companies are working together to develop additional stores throughout the next 24 months.

''The Siemens Mall is a perfect example of how large enterprises are using Open Market's powerful commerce software as a platform for cross divisional multi-national Internet commerce initiatives,'' said Gary Eichhorn, president and CEO of Open Market, Inc. ''Transact's distributed architecture and robust design allows industrial companies to employ multiple selling models with one unified commerce infrastructure.''

''The Siemens mall is a first-of-its-kind effort in the electronics industry,'' said Bernhard Masion, Director Electronic Commerce, Siemens AG. ''Open Market is the only company that provided us the software to develop a distributed infrastructure so that each of our stores could operate independently, but still link into one central transaction engine.''
