I am glad to see that the configuration button has been supplemented by friendlier mechanisms. I am familiar with the use of SNMP to provide control and configuration functions, but in my opinion it is perhaps best not to rely on SNMP as the only method of remote management. In places where security is a concern, such as on some Internet networks, many network managers do not enable write communities to prevent denial-of-service attacks. Anyone with physical access to a network over which SNMP management information is travelling can easily obtain the community and use it to their advantage.
