Seems to me like everyone is a lot better prepared this time around with resultant lower but still significant risks. 15,000 psi at 3+ miles down is never a sure thing. (Thought I would get my licks in before Grayhairs wakes up!)

In a similar vein I woke from a snooze to dimly hear ELH mentioned on CBC Newsworld at 6:45pm EST with reference to BKP. The analyst wanted to talk more but got cut off by the announcer - out of time.

The horses sure ran today! KOB won by a nose but looks like we'll have lots more races to come!

Hello Buffalo Bill,

The short answer is because the gas pressure in the formation exceeded the backpressure exerted by the mud column that was ~17,600 feet.

But we can only speculate why that actually happened. I do not think it will happen again.
