(Urlman -- this isn't a response to your post, it was just a handy one to reply to) No doubt it will be a wild ride in the near term, and yes, Mp3 doesn't own any proprietary technology right now, but one element of the potential of MP3.com that has been virtually ignored in the posts I've read is its enormous catalog of artists and music. True, not many are (or will be) pop icons, but if MP3 plays its cards right and continues building a strong sense of community, they can create a commercial music licensing, publishing, and talent management empire servicing not just the traditional music industry but films, commercial production, industrials, needledrop libraries, multimedia etc. True, others could try to compete in this arena, but MP3.com has a substantial lead in brand building (which I'm sure will be reinforced soon with advertising) not to mention cash, and relationships with Cox, Ascap, and others. That's one of the things that excites me about MP3.Com, not the revenues from ad banners or hype about the mp3 format itself.
