"I hope there will not be a hosting or colo glut--at least not in the very near future.."

No, not yet. My musing was that over time so many folks would get caught up in what was yesterday's great idea (and still today's to a great extent still), but one which will lose its value standing on the commodity curve, eventually.

Re: T-1 is a T-1...<?i>

No, not that kind of T1. I was either unclear in my posting, or you are mistaking T1 carrier circuits [which operates at 1.544 Mb/s] with what I was referring to as, a Tier One backbone provider.

Tier One, in this case has nothing to do with T1.

Rather, A Tier One Backbone Provider is an company belonging to a group who possess the highest bandwidth capacities on the Internet, supposedly, and who have a presence at the NFSnet-approved NAPs (the Internet's Network Access Points and other exchanges and meet points on the 'net).

My question was, What minimum level of transmission capacity and node/route peering qualifies a Service Provider as a Tier One. Anyone?
