When supply gets tight, any bizarre things could happen. If memory serves me well, about 4 years ago, a chip packaging material company in Japan was on fire, and paused production for a few days. The RAM chips price surged right away to $50 for one MB (and now it is priced at about 50 cent).

Similar thing happened a couple of months ago in the San Francisco Bay area when oil price got higher and higher. An explosion occurred in a gas refinery factory owned by Chevron but without any personnel injury (some people even suspect this is a …).

Guess what, gas price arises to more than $2.00 at some gas stations in the SF Bay area the next day.
