Ken: <<Where do you buy batteries in bulk?

.......6-volt? No, they take Ds. Home Depot sells them in bulk...they will match anyone's price...specialty places sell batteries in bulk, some much less.

I think I have that lantern you referred to. [I'm too lazy to out to the garage to verify it's the same model.]

.....save wear and tear on the bunions....it is a new product, at least by Coleman...the u-tube is new...brighter than 2 6" florescent tubes

And, your right. It does give off very good light. I'm gonna do a "girl" thing and create a decorative base to hide the real one, so it fits in with my decor:-)

.......bases have no gender !

I was going to get Alladin lanterns (some were really pretty) ... but, they're very hard to come buy and have become extremely expensive.

....In about 6 months, electronic promises to pay will be as ancient history as the Magna Carta and America, the land of the Free.

......they are still quite available, at least the girlie ones..

expensive. I never liked the idea of burning anything in my house with fuel anyway. Though I'll still probably keep my eyes open for one at a garage sale or re-sale shop

....I have written a paper about the REAL AND POTENTIAL, if not probable senarios of city-wide fires triggered from any petrol-based product used in the homes for lighting, heating, cooking, starting widespread fires that cannot be stopped if firetrucks don't come and help out the helpless...All it will take is just ONE accidental fire from any one of hundreds or millions of people in any one city, if
the fire fighters are 'temporarily on leave', without their trucks(working), reserve water supplies are used up, etc.

ANYONE WITH NEIGHBORS is in potential mortal danger of waking up one nite to the smell of smoke and the sound of screaming, but minus the sounds of fire engines,..what do firestorms sound like????

snap....crackle....pop....."Oh Harry, is that a fire in OUR house?....can't be! We put out the candles when we went to bed!! I bet its our stupid neighbors, the Ronettes! ...I saw them liting an Adlannin latern today!!!....
....call 911...what no dial tone????.....then, get our fire extinguisher...you can't see because the lites are out??
WEll, go get the kids unless they are already burnt up....at least, grab our fine china!!!"

a normal flashlight bulb is rated in MICRO candle power. A really strong one might be 250 microcandle power. (and micro candle power=100 times LESS powerful than a regular candle power) they are so blue that they come out white, where normal incandescent light is yellowish by comparison.

The great thing about those flashlights Art Bell advertises is that they do not have any filaments to burn out like a regular flashlight bulb does. the light comes from the electricity passing between two embedded metal prongs in this indestructible plastic bulb looking bump about the size of a shriveled soybean.

these flashlights are astounding!!!

i've been busy wiring in series a batch of small LEDs with my soldering iron to operate off of a solar powered 12v dc gel cell battery. these particular batteries can be found at your local battery exchange chain or through motorcycle type shops. they are about 4" high, 3" wide, and 3" thick. Gels will allow you to use them down to 80% of their capacity before they need recharging.

one of the experiments i have yet to conduct is to see if i can use these fabulous flashlight at full bore power, enhanced by a mylar 'shadowbox' type frame to recharge a small 12x12 solar panel because it gives back more candlepower than it uses up in battery charge.

i'll try to remember to keep you posted on this experiment. can you solder? it isn't a guy thing, just a hardware store thing. that is where you can buy a cheap soldering iron and the inexpensive coiled solder.

re: your phone: radio shack makes a non-transformer type plain jane desk phone that has a switch for rotary or touch-tone that you toggle.
i personally am trying to locate the old princess telephone for us, with the big round four pronged end. they do make an adapter from 4 prong to current modular plug cord jack. i'm sure you'll find that at radio shack also.

i had one that i'd been saving all these years, but the damn thing wouldn't ring when i tried it the other day! so I took it to salvation army as a donation and am on the hunt for another one.

those princess phones also are touch tone, and pre-date the early 70s electronics embedded chip problems to the best of my understanding. however, i am open to be corrected, especially if someone will do it before i buy another one.

the princess and the radio shack model mentioned above operate strictly from the electrical current coming through the phone line.
