Those are very specialized batteries you mention. The main requirement is shelf life and ruggedness and rechargability is not a factor - nobody wants to have to remember to recharge the flares or artillary shells.

If the VLNC technology is optimized for shelf life, then it may be a contender. Alliant has been in the battery business long before VLNC came around and probably has other solutions for these applications.
