One of the worst teen movies I ever saw (although it scores big points for realism) was "Dazed and Confused". Good scene - a bunch of teenagers parading a bootleg case of beer in a solemn procession and chanting "Al - cohol... Al - cohol..."

I agree that there were a larger number of good teen movies in the '80s. Maybe part of the problem is that I was already well out of college by the time Fast Times came along. Neither it nor Clueless is particularly personal to me, I am just judging them as films, and from that standpoint I think that Clueless is better. It has a more sstisfying script structure; is shot with a greater attention to visual detail, flow, and elegance; treats the characters less as stereotypes and more as individuals; takes time to develop a theme; and has a surer handle on tone....
