My impression is that NOPT is laying local-loop fiber in major metropolitan markets, a la MFNX, but instead of selling the dark fiber they're lighting it and selling capacity ("carrier's carrier"). I think what Gilder likes is that the DWDM/fiber model they're using could give rise to reselling capacity based on dedicated wavelengths vs. by the bit.

If/when this model might become real, if/when customers might be in a position to leverage it, and whether the model will translate into immediate and or sustained competitive advantage for NOPT are questions apparently not covered by Gilder and left to the investor. I assume that today they're leasing capacity by the bit.
