Hi aj,
<Most people would know what an uncut stone is after seeing
one average quality uncut stone>
What do you mean by most people? The problem with uncut stones is, that not even the experts are able with certainty to put a quality sticker on it.To say that the average investor, or any of the wise man on Howe or Baystreet could say what an average quality stone is, is too much to expect.Only continious experience in this field gives you an inkling what the quality of a stone MAY be.Only after the stone is polished can a quality be established with more certainty.
As far as most people go, I would say that they would not be able to differenciate between a diamond or a crystalline rock and could not even see the difference between a polished diamond and a zirkon or a white spinel or white sapphire.
