"Doesn't Q has patent on CDMA technology and LSI has to pay royalties to Q? If that's the case, then why is LSI a threat or a competitor?"

If LSI is able to come up with a gangbuster CDMA ASIC, it could potentially take away some ASIC sales from the Q. These would of course be balanced to a degree by the royalties they would have to pay Q for using their IPR. I know this was discussed 5-10K posts ago, but I can't recall which is better for the Q as a company. Is it better to lose ASIC market share, and get royalties from the sellers, or to make all the sales themselves but possibly not have the market grow as quickly.

My thoughts lean towards a greater sized pie welcomes all competitors theory. If LSI has a great chip, Q gets royalties, and the well functioning handsets can bring in more business, growing the pie even more. I like to think that having another capable CDMA ASIC vendor will benefit Q by expanding their markets at a faster rate than if it was just them alone. I also threw it out there to get away from the stock offering debate...

Just my $0.02 Eudoradollars...
