I certainly hope you are right about Lucent going much higher. We are not off to a very good start this morning. 11:15 67.25 down almost 3.

The bitterness in your tone suggests you are not taking the recent (and hopefully short term) drop in LU very well. I have always advised caution on this thread (you can read my postings on the SUN , INTC, and ASND threads) whenever tech stocks have sky-rocketed (and usually sold covered calls and bought puts as hedges). Sometimes the strategy works, sometimes it dosen't - but it does reduce the portfolio volatility (giving up some return in exchange).

Whether you believe my positions or not is irrelevant as far the role the Silicon Investor thread in dissemanating opinions (and hopefully information) is concerned. I would like to correct the premise of some of your statements (which I am sure was made in the heat and excitement of these volatile times).

< I was surprised that they are predicting lower than expected earnings for the Dec qtr.> Why do you make false statements?

In their CC, LU did indcicate that the Dec qtr may see a slowdown due to Y2k issues, but that any sales losses will most likely be deferred to the following year.

"I do not believe a thing you claim to have done! If true you would not have time to post rather you would be busy counting your winnings!

You don't have to believe anything (it is a free country after all). However, your implication that anybody who has time to post on SI is probably losing out in the stock market undermines the basis for existence of Silicon Investor. We are all here to figure out better ways to make money (long or short). After all you can count your winnings and still post.

"LU is going higher, much higher from these levels. Stay short and get burned baby!"

I do agree with you on that one. LU is ultimtaely going much higher (for which reason I am long the stock through ASND). The puts that I bought last week (which you believe are fictitious) are up handsomely, so short term I am neutral on LU. Wouldn't dream of being short on LU or any stock for that matter as most of my positions are long term.

The reason for this detailed repsonse is that rarely has anybody attacked me or my posts in the past. Civility and harmony ought to be maintained whether the market is UP or DOWN.

Regards

Alok
