I got home from dancing at the Derby tonight to find 230 posts waiting to be read on the Q thread. Knowing that I would not be able to read them all, I scanned them, figuring that with that many posts, the company must be going under! Three points seemed obvious: The Stock had dropped 6 5/16 today The company was expanding their sale of stock from 4 billion to 6 billion, Some people on this board were pissed over point one and two. Upon reflection, I reach the following conclusions: First, Q has gone up over 500% this year. It is up over 9% this month, and over 34% in June and 9% in May. It was up 36% in April! Nobody that got in this stock in the last few months is hurting. I started buying back into it on Mar 31 of this year, and bought my last bit on July 15th. I am up 71% on my total purchases this year. If Jacob's, or others in the company, get the board to issue them options, sell the stock, and pocket the money, it dilutes our holdings, but we accept it as compensation for the people involved. If the company sells six billion dollars worth of stock and puts the money received in the company treasury, the worth of the company increased by the same amount as the stock issued, no one is hurt, and the credit rating and ability of the company to expand increases. When I look at this, I am all for it, because I believe it is in my best interest. I know I made a comment otherwise last week. Upon reflection, I realized that I was wrong. When I made comments on this board back in April about the Company, one of the minus's I listed was that the stock was going to be very volatile. Take a close look at the stock price history of MSFT, CSCO, and INTC over the last 9 years. I went through a 40% drop in CSCO last year. Wait until we get one of those! This is what we are going to go through. A 4% daily move, like we had today, is to be expected. I was ecstatic when it went up that same amount yesterday. When I try to reason these daily moves out, I end up sounding no better than a "Talking Head" on CNBC. Hey, the market is illogical short term and logical long term. Go Figure! I got to a 100% portfolio position in Q by making comparisons between it and other companies that I owned or was interested in. Each time I compared, using my Criteria, I found that Q was so far ahead as an investment that there was no comparison! I still would not have made this big a commitment if it were not for Q's position as a "Gorilla". This gave me the peace of mind to feel that it was safe to risk all. From reading the board, I realize that there are many people here who own Q and really don't understand the company, or its significantly different position in its market than that of the normal Tech Company we all invest in. I really believe that Q will turn out to have a stronger franchise than Microsoft.
