Great news! Looks like the west coast,U.Cal and now the east coast, NIH are going to be big time research participants. The rest of the research inst. around the country will come on board w/ time, to keep the data flowing in a universally acceptable format. This is not a whole lot different than how DARPA started in the sixties, sharing info will speed the progress. Nice to see AFFX at the focus of this gene research. This will only bode well short and long term, AFFX the platform of choice for Bio research in the next millenium. Thanks for the hot release. Neal

From the AFFX press release:

<Affymetrix has developed and intends to establish its GeneChip system as the platform of choice for acquiring, analyzing and managing complex genetic information in order to improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease. The Company's GeneChip system consists of disposable DNA probe arrays containing gene sequences on a chip, reagents for use with the probe arrays, a scanner and other instruments to process the probe arrays and software to analyze and
manage genetic information.>

So they not only want to sell chips, it seems they want to create the standard platform for analyzing and managing the data as well. Interesting.
